GTA 5 : What makes it a success?

This critique will discuss how GTA5 creates a strongly immersive experience for its story mode as well as the online open world, with use of interactive narrative where plot is fixed and yet responds to player actions, which is a very tough combination to achieve. It will discuss the different narrative and story-telling techniques used by the developers of GTA5 to achieve this effect of immersion, by giving examples on how different player actions affect the story and player’s agency in the GTA world. All this discussion will shade light on the reason why on the release day of this game all the stores that sold this game had to stay open for 24 hours and why even after 7 years the game servers experience crashes due to number of players trying to join in.
